THE DREAMBOX ALLIANCE OF THE PRESIDENTS
"When you are satisfied and happy with yourself you
become a president immediately and when you are a president you can do
everything."
“The Dreambox Alliance Of The Presidents” is
a project of Eduard Gabia (Rumania), Johannes Lernpeiss (Austria) and Willy
Prager (Bulgaria). Three artists, coming from different fields of contemporary
art (Dance, Theater and Visual Arts) and different cultural backgrounds, join
together to find new challenges in their artistic expression.
Three self-elected presidents, forming an
alliance that crosses political and artistic borders, and intends to create a
series of artworks.
Gabia, Lernpeiss and Prager decided to
become presidents of themselves and they started to experience the advantage of
this exceptional position. They approach the topic of identification from as
many angles as possible; in a time of opening borders, globalization and
endless possibilities it becomes more and more difficult to relate to anything
or identify with something.
The Presidents explore the idea that everybody
can become a president, by creating strategies, methods and practical
instructions as well as documents of experiences to encourage each and everyone
to become a president of oneself.
By giving up your personal identity and
taking on another identity, you free yourself from conventions coming from our
background, and you allow a new common performing language to emerge.
The Presidents take the performance
conventions of the political world as a starting structure to de- and
reconstruct it in their own common esthetic.
Assuming that every political act is a
performance, they create their own format to change the perception of power as
a concept.
“The Dreambox Alliance Of The Presidents” is
a format that is based on the artistic knowledge of Gabia, Lernpeiss and Prager
and also on the research they do on the behavior of their "elected" colleagues
performing on the political stage. By deconstructing and analyzing the way of
choosing the words, the gestures, the expressions, the body tension, the way of
walking and moving, the way of the political world enacting and staging itself
in its environment is the base for the artists to be able to reconstruct and
re-contextualize the results into an artistic language that undermines their
decision to be self-elected
presidents.
We as presidents see the potential of this
collaboration in the difference between our fields of work and our cultures; we
have therefore access to a great deal of artistic tools that we can use in this
process for a common result. We see this as a work in a steady process and we
have to stress that throughout this process the results will emerge in any
shape and media.
